Actress Juliette Kaplan starred in Last Of The Summer Wine for 25 years
Juliette Kaplan, the last of the Summer Wine actress, died at the age of 80 after battling cancer, her agent said.
Between 1985 and 2010, she starred at the iconic BBC sitcom for 25 years, playing Pearl Sibshaw’s role.
Her time on the series spanned 226 episodes during which she spent much of her character trying to thwart her husband’s attempts to have an affair.
While she was best known for her role as Pearl, during her long entertainment career, Kaplan also appeared in EastEnders, Coronation Street, and Doctors.
Away from the screen, from 1958 to his death in 1981, she was married to Harold Hoser-and had three children.
She was born in Bournemouth on 2 October 1939, but in South Africa she spent much of her childhood.
Back in 2012, Kaplan told Kent Life that she had only returned to Bournemouth because her mother wanted to send her to the school of drama to “polish my voice.”
Her accent had been affected by her time in South Africa and a year in New York.
Kaplan spoke to Kent Life to promote a solo show at the Margate Theatre Royal, in which she reprised
her beloved role from Last Of The Summer Wine.
Her appearance at Coronation Street in 2015 as Agnes Tinker marked her final television work.
Agent Barry Langford tweeted announcing her death on Thursday: “Juliette Kaplan, ‘Our Pearl’, has finally succumbed to the cancer she has bravely battled for so long.
